Slovak Ministry of Interior denies hiding radar purchase in IT contract

The Stop Corruption Foundation has raised concerns regarding the Slovak Ministry of Interior's purchase of 25 speed radars from the company Soitron, valued at 1.5 million euros. The foundation alleges that the ministry attempted to hide this purchase within a larger 22-million-euro contract for IT equipment, such as printers, computers, and monitors. Additionally, the foundation noted that the radars lacked necessary certification at the time of the order and has called on the Supreme Audit Office and the Public Procurement Office to investigate.

The Ministry of Interior has denied allegations of concealment, stating that the specific item name, ‘Radarový rýchlomer m*SpeedDetR’, was explicitly listed in the public registry. The ministry explained that the generic IT labels used were merely automated accounting group designations within their economic system.

Furthermore, the ministry clarified that it has not taken delivery of any of the 25 radars and does not intend to do so. Officials stated that the order was effectively canceled in September, regardless of the security assessment conducted by the National Security Authority. The ministry maintained that future equipment for the police will be procured through a standard public tender.
