Slovak Ministry revokes hazardous waste project approval in Sučany

The Slovak Ministry of Environment has revoked a previous decision regarding a hazardous waste project in Sučany by the company EBA. Following appeals from the local municipality, a civic initiative, and members of the public, Minister Tomáš Taraba ordered the ministry to re-examine the project's environmental impacts and publish the underlying data used for the original decision.

The project, which entered the environmental impact assessment (EIA) process in 2021, involves expanding EBA's existing operations. The scope includes new technologies such as a lava solidification line for physical-chemical treatment of hazardous waste with a 20,000-ton capacity, as well as the management of existing biodegradation and composting activities.
