Slovak municipalities invest in lighting and green infrastructure

Municipalities in Slovakia are advancing infrastructure and environmental projects. In Poprad, the city has modernized public lighting in the Juh housing estate and the Matejovce district. The installation of new LED luminaires on galvanized steel poles is designed to improve light quality and pedestrian safety. The system utilizes Smart City technology, allowing for remote monitoring and control. Mayor Anton Danko noted that the modernization is expected to yield annual energy savings of up to 80 percent, equivalent to nearly 50,000 kWh.

In Banská Bystrica, the city has secured four million euros for the revitalization of Jelšový hájik and two streets. This is part of the larger ‘Green Housing Estates’ project, which aims to renew approximately 50 hectares of public space with a total budget of roughly 20 million euros. The planned improvements in the Sásová district include repairing walkways and bridges, improving water retention, planting new greenery, and installing new benches and lighting. The project also focuses on creating new playgrounds, sports areas, and social zones, while enhancing biodiversity through the planting of trees, shrubs, and perennial beds.
