Slovak National Council resumes sessions with extensive legislative agenda

The National Council of the Slovak Republic is scheduled to resume its sessions on September 15 following a three-month summer recess. The upcoming 61st parliamentary session features an extensive agenda with nearly 300 items for discussion.

Key legislative proposals include regulations for social media use by children under 16, updates to the Civil Code, and adjustments to the Building Act. The Ministry of Finance is also proposing amendments to Value Added Tax (VAT) rules regarding the platform economy to improve collection and competition. Other topics include constitutional changes regarding the shortening of parliamentary terms, voting procedures for citizens abroad, and measures to limit unethical breeding of pets.

Additionally, the Prime Minister has expressed intentions to reconsider the transaction tax, a move supported by economic analysts who argue the tax has caused business departures and increased regulatory uncertainty in Slovakia.
