Slovak NGOs must adopt electronic invoicing by 2027

Starting January 1, 2027, non-governmental non-profit organizations (NGOs), including civic associations and foundations in Slovakia, will be required to implement electronic invoicing capabilities. This legislative change mandates that these entities move away from exclusively receiving paper invoices or unstructured PDF files in favor of structured electronic formats that allow for automated processing and increased transparency.

Under the new regulations, NGOs must be able to receive domestic taxable invoices and issue them to other domestic entities using the Peppol network via certified digital postmen. While the obligation to issue e-invoices does not apply to non-VAT payers, all relevant NGOs must ensure they are technically and procedurally prepared to receive them.

To prepare for this transition, organizations are advised to verify their Tax Identification Number (DIČ), set up user accounts on the Financial Administration portal, and select appropriate accounting software or digital solutions. The transition period includes an opportunity for voluntary participation throughout 2026.
