Slovak Parliament approves new State Flag Day

The Slovak National Council has approved the establishment of September 18 as the State Flag Day. Proposed by the Slovak National Party (SNS), the measure passed with 77 votes in favor out of 137 members present. The new commemorative day aims to strengthen awareness of the national flag as a fundamental symbol of statehood through education and culture, though it will not be a public holiday.

During celebrations for the 82nd anniversary of the Carpathian-Dukla Operation, National Council Speaker Richard Raša emphasized the importance of patriotism and respect for the country. He noted that democracy requires the existence of debate and that differing opinions on government or economy should not lead to the disparagement of the nation itself. Raša highlighted that true patriotism involves recognizing and addressing a country's problems rather than claiming everything is perfect.
