Slovak Parliament currently has nine independent MPs
The National Council of the Slovak Republic currently includes nine independent members who do not belong to any parliamentary club. These shifts in the 150-seat legislature have occurred throughout the current term due to various political movements.
Six of the independent members originally ran on coalition party lists, while three departed from opposition clubs. Notable independent members include Tomáš Taraba and Peter Slyško. Taraba, formerly the Minister of Environment nominated by the SNS, returned to the parliamentary benches as an autonomous member following his dismissal by President Peter Pellegrini after a vote of no confidence.
Other independent members include Peter Slyško, who left the Hlas-SD club to work with Taraba, Jana Bittó Cigániková, who was expelled from the SaS opposition party, and Ján Ferenčák, who left the Hlas-SD club following his removal from the chairmanship of the Committee for European Affairs.
