Slovak PM Fico says SNS‑Taraba trust breach could trigger minister swap

Prime Minister Robert Fico warned that if political trust between the coalition Slovak National Party (SNS) and its nominee for Environment Minister, Tomáš Taraba, is not restored by the end of September 2026, a personnel change will be made at the ministerial and deputy‑premier level. He cited the coalition agreement, which obliges the prime minister to submit a replacement proposal to the president when a coalition partner requests it.

Fico described the ongoing cabinet reshuffle debate as a media bubble and said the coalition council meeting was constructive, with governing parties confirming they intend to serve the full electoral term. President Peter Pellegrini added that he sees no immediate need to intervene in the coalition’s internal matters.
