Slovak PM Robert Fico criticises media silence after EU halts double fuel‑price case

Prime Minister Robert Fico said the European Commission has stopped proceedings against Slovakia over the country's temporary "double fuel‑price" scheme, which was introduced to shield consumers from sharp price increases and shortages. He claimed Slovak media have completely ignored the development, noting a Reuters poll that 81 % of Slovaks distrust domestic outlets.

Fico also used the occasion to denounce the Pohoda music festival in Trenčín, describing it as a platform for anti‑government figures, including a Georgian legion commander he linked to the 2016 Kyiv protests. He reiterated Slovakia’s stance of not joining additional military financing for Ukraine, despite discussions at a recent NATO summit.
