Slovak PM Robert Fico marks 2‑year anniversary of assassination attempt, appears fit

On 15 May 2024 an assassination attempt in the eastern Slovak town of Handlová left Prime Minister Robert Fico seriously injured; four of five shots struck him, causing abdominal wounds that required three operations. The attack sparked a national debate on the security of constitutional officials.

Two years later, Fico posted a video on social media to commemorate the “second birthday” of the incident. In the footage he runs, does push‑ups, swims in a lake and plays with a new dog, saying he is “in form” and ending with the slogan “What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger.” He also announced a press conference in Handlová for that afternoon.

The video underlines his physical recovery and serves as a symbolic return to the site of the attack, which remains a pivotal moment in recent Slovak political history.
