Slovak PM Robert Fico rules out Slovakia joining NATO Ukraine military‑aid fund

Prime Minister Robert Fico said that the conclusions of the NATO summit in Ankara will not create any obligation for Slovakia to participate in the financial mechanism intended for military assistance to Ukraine. He confirmed this after exchanging letters with NATO secretary‑general Markus Rutte, stressing that his government believes the conflict has no military solution and will continue providing humanitarian aid and maintaining joint Slovak‑Ukrainian governmental talks.

Fico added that Slovakia will not join any NATO‑led military‑aid fund, just as it did not join the EU’s €90 billion loan programme for Ukraine. In response, Rutte wrote that the summit’s final declaration is a political‑strategic statement agreed by all 32 NATO leaders and does not predetermine sovereign decisions of individual members regarding Ukraine support.
