Slovak Police Detains Two in Anti‑Corruption “Kariéra” Operation
On 15 July, the anti‑corruption unit of Slovakia’s Office of the Fight Against Organized Crime (ÚBOK) carried out a police operation codenamed “Kariéra” after several months of documenting suspected wrongdoing. The raid resulted in the detention of two men and the execution of two house searches. Investigators charged both individuals with the offence of indirect corruption.
According to police statements, one suspect tried to use contacts within a political party to secure a managerial position in a police unit, demanding a payment of €5,000‑€10,000 for the appointment. Police emphasised that appointments must be decided solely on legal criteria, expertise and personal integrity. Police President Jana Maškarová said public trust is a core value and the investigation is ongoing.
