Slovak police arrest suspects in human smuggling and drug trafficking operations
Slovak authorities have conducted two significant law enforcement operations in the Košice region, targeting human smuggling and large-scale drug trafficking.
In operation ‘Pešiak’, the Bureau for Combating Organized Crime (ÚBOK) arrested a second suspect involved in an illegal migration ring. The investigation began on October 1 after police intercepted a vehicle in Kolbasov containing five Ukrainian nationals who had illegally crossed the border. The arrested individual was allegedly tasked with guiding migrants through a forest to a waiting vehicle in exchange for payment. Both suspects in the smuggling case have been remanded in custody and face seven to ten years in prison.
In a separate operation codenamed ‘Spoločnosť’, the National Anti-Drug Unit targeted drug-related crime in Košice. Police arrested three individuals and charged four men, aged 34 to 44, with the illegal production and sale of narcotics. One suspect is accused of distributing methamphetamine on an especially large scale, a crime that carries a potential sentence of ten to 25 years or life imprisonment. Authorities seized significant quantities of methamphetamine and marijuana, €100,000 in cash, investment gold, and two vehicles linked to the criminal proceeds.
