Slovak police warn of fraudulent traffic‑fine SMS scams

The Slovak Police Force has issued a renewed warning about fraudulent text messages that claim recipients have incurred traffic violations and must pay a fine. The messages impersonate traffic police and allege that an "intelligent traffic‑monitoring system" recorded the offence, urging payment through a provided web link within a short deadline, often 48 hours. Police stress that they never send fines via SMS; official notices are delivered by post or to an electronic mailbox and contain full legal details.

The police advise the public to disregard such messages, avoid clicking any links, and never provide personal or payment information. Victims who have already entered card details should contact their bank and report the incident. The warning was highlighted after a fraudulent SMS also reached a member of the Interez editorial team, who does not own a vehicle, illustrating that the scams are sent in bulk without regard to the recipient's driving status.
