Slovak political developments: opposition unity calls and Bytča incident
In the Prešov region of Slovakia, members of Progressive Slovakia (PS) are calling for opposition parties to cooperate to ensure the success of democratic candidates in upcoming municipal elections. MPs Darina Luščíková and Richard Dubovický urged parties to prioritize collective success over individual ambitions, specifically citing the need for agreements in Prešov, Kežmarok, and Bardejov to prevent the fragmentation of votes.
Luščíková pointed to successful cooperation in other cities like Banská Bystrica and Trnava as models for how parties can support candidates with the highest chance of winning. Dubovický emphasized that political egos must be set aside to address the needs of the local population.
Separately, a political meeting held by Hnutie Slovensko in Bytča resulted in a physical confrontation involving a 78-year-old man and plainclothes police officers. The incident occurred during an interaction between Igor Matovič and the senior citizen, who had criticized the movement. Following the altercation, the man was detained by police and sustained minor injuries, according to his son, who claims the senior was provoked by Matovič and security personnel.
