Slovak politicians debate Russian election legitimacy and NATO security

Slovak political figures have engaged in heated debates regarding the legitimacy of recent Russian elections and Slovakia's stance on international security. Members of the SaS party, including Juraj Krúpa and Vladimíra Marcinková, criticized the Russian electoral process, stating that the exclusion of real opposition prevents a true reflection of public support and serves to legitimize Russia's ongoing aggression against Ukraine.

Krúpa specifically accused Slovak politicians such as Robert Fico and Andrej Danko of looking toward Moscow as a political model, noting that Russia suppresses political opposition and engages in hybrid attacks against Europe. Marcinková emphasized that democracy requires the right to choose, criticize, and remove leaders, arguing that the Russian results merely reflect who the Kremlin allowed to participate.

In the Slovak National Council, discussions also touched upon Europe's lack of a clear political plan for the Russia-Ukraine conflict. While some lawmakers, such as Beáta Jurík, advocated for strengthening NATO's eastern flank following the approval to send Slovak personnel to support airspace protection, others, including Roman Michelko, dismissed such parliamentary actions as empty gestures.
