Slovak politicians debate Ukraine reconstruction funding
Slovak politicians are divided over the country's role in the international commission for the reconstruction of Ukraine. Marián Kéry, Chairman of the Parliamentary Foreign Affairs Committee from the Smer party, stated he has no objection to Slovakia participating in such a commission. However, he expressed opposition to using frozen Russian assets to fund the reconstruction, arguing that such a move would contradict international law.
In contrast, Vladimíra Marcinková of the SaS party argued that Slovakia should not remain on the sidelines. She emphasized the principle of accountability, suggesting that if Russia causes damage to a nation, it must be held responsible for the costs of repair. Marcinková believes the international commission is the appropriate venue to address these compensation issues.
