Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico seeks EU reimbursement for Ukraine military aid
Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico announced that he will raise the issue of reimbursing Slovakia for military equipment sent to Ukraine with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen. The equipment, including MiG‑29 fighter jets and S‑300 anti‑missile systems, is valued at roughly €700 million, while Slovakia has so far received only €92 million from the European Peace Facility.
Fico warned that the funding shortfall could become a “huge scandal,” criticized the EU for inadequate financing, and called for discussions at the upcoming EU‑Western Balkans summit in Tivat, Montenegro. He also urged the Visegrad Group to operate in a V4+ format after Slovakia assumes the EU Council presidency in July, inviting senior EU officials to participate in future meetings.
