Slovak Public Health Authority Issues Sunburn Care Guidelines

The Slovak Public Health Authority (ÚVZ) advises people to avoid further sun exposure after a burn and to cool the skin with lukewarm baths or compresses. For mild burns, apply creams containing panthenol or aloe vera and stay well‑hydrated. Severe burns with blisters require medical attention and should not be punctured to prevent infection.

Children under one year should not be exposed to direct sunlight at all, and infants under six months should not use sunscreen; they must be protected with shade, hats, and clothing. Older children and adults should reapply high‑SPF sunscreen regularly, wear protective headgear and UV‑filtering sunglasses, and choose products with higher SPF numbers for longer protection. The authority also warns against leaving children or animals in parked vehicles, even with windows slightly open, as rapid overheating can be fatal.
