Slovak regions demand energy funds as heating vouchers arrive

Self-governing regions in Slovakia are urging the Ministry of Economy to immediately release EU funds from the 'Slovensko' Program to support energy management. The Association of Self-Governing Regions of Slovakia (SK8) noted that new legislative requirements regarding energy efficiency and building management will take effect on January 1, 2027. Regions manage hundreds of buildings and will be required to monitor and evaluate energy consumption data, a task they claim cannot be fulfilled without systemic co-financing for professional staff, information systems, and specialized services.

Separately, the final installment of energy vouchers for 2026 has begun arriving in Slovak households. This specific wave compensates for increased costs of centrally supplied heat and hot water for the period from September to December 2026. Eligible households can collect the funds in cash at Slovak Post branches, but the vouchers are only valid for 45 days from the date specified on the document. Unlike electricity and gas assistance, which is applied directly to bills, these vouchers must be manually redeemed.
