Slovak regions invest in new social care and cultural facilities

Regional governments in Slovakia are completing significant infrastructure projects aimed at social and cultural development.

In Krupina, the Banská Bystrica Self-Governing Region (BBSK) has begun construction on a specialized social services facility costing over five million euros. The barrier-free, single-story building is designed to serve 40 clients suffering from Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s, and other forms of dementia. The project, which has been in preparation since 2020, aims to address the needs of an aging population by providing a safe, professional environment with modern assistance systems.

In Vranov nad Topľou, the Prešov Self-Governing Region (PSK) has opened a new cultural center housing the Hornozemplínska Library. The 9.5 million euro renovation of the 1979 structure includes extensive structural changes, such as an extension, a glass central hall, and improved technical infrastructure. The facility features specialized zones including a children’s area, a youth space, a SmartLab, and a literary café. The library also introduced a 24/7 self-service system via Bibliomats to enhance accessibility for its collection of approximately 83,000 books.
