Slovak sports officials address football debt and infrastructure funding

Slovak Minister of Tourism and Sports Rudolf Huliak has raised concerns regarding the financial stability of the Slovak Football Association (SFZ). Huliak claims that the SFZ and SFZ Marketing face combined liabilities totaling 23.5 million euros by the end of 2025. He reported that coaches, youth clubs, and suppliers have expressed difficulties receiving timely payments and wages from the association.

To address these issues, Huliak is advocating for a change in how state funds are distributed, proposing that money flow more directly to clubs to prevent the association's financial problems from impacting the broader football community. This discussion coincides with legislative efforts in the National Council of the Slovak Republic to amend the Sports Act.

Separately, Slovak government ministries are working to improve the coordination of sports infrastructure funding. A meeting between the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Tourism and Sports focused on better managing public funds for school sports facilities. Proposals include creating an inter-ministerial council to coordinate support for sports infrastructure across various government sectors, ensuring investments are directed toward high-impact projects for students and schools.
