Slovak students win third place at global robotics championship

Slovak high school students secured third place globally at the FIRST Global Challenge robotics championship held in Incheon, South Korea. The team earned recognition in the New Technology Experience category for their project, FireSonics. This innovation utilizes artificial intelligence to analyze ambient environmental sounds to identify specific acoustic signatures of fires.

The competition's central theme focused on combating wildfires, tasking participants with developing technologies for early detection, prevention, or mitigation. In addition to the innovation category, the Slovak team participated in the main robotics discipline, which required working in international alliances to navigate a simulated fire-threatened landscape. Team Slovakia finished 57th in this discipline, placing them within the top third of competing nations.

Adam Kukla, president of FIRST Global Slovakia, described the achievement as a major success for the country, noting that the students met their goal of surpassing previous national results. The team was mentored by Martin Hronský, who was also recognized as one of the top ten mentors at the event.
