Slovak suspect arrested in Budapest for ATM bombings

Hungarian police in Budapest detained a 28‑year‑old Slovak man suspected of using explosives to rob several ATMs in Slovakia in May 2026. The arrest was made on 12 June in a basement garage in the Ferencváros district after coordination with Slovak, Czech and Hungarian authorities.

In his Budapest apartment, investigators seized a mask, night‑vision goggles, bullet‑proof vest, gloves, a rubber‑projectile gun and a full set of bomb‑making components, including timers, remote controls and detonators. The suspect had previously been convicted of armed robbery in Slovakia and is now facing charges of illegal use of explosives and related crimes. Slovak police have issued a European arrest warrant and are discussing extradition.
