Slovak telecommunications market undergoes major restructuring

The Slovak telecommunications and television market is experiencing significant consolidation and brand changes. The satellite provider Skylink will cease operating under its current name on October 22, transitioning to Canal+, though existing subscriptions and services will remain active.

Other major shifts include the merger of Digi Slovakia with Slovak Telekom, which effectively ended Digi Slovakia as a separate legal entity as of September 1, 2026. Additionally, O2 is set to merge with UPC on November 1, leading to the gradual phase-out of the UPC brand.

In the mobile sector, Swan, the operator of 4ka, has signed an agreement to acquire Slovanet. This transaction is expected to be completed by early 2027, pending approval from the Slovak Anti-Monopoly Office.

Amidst these changes, Slovak Telekom has updated its Magio TV internet television offerings, including price increases for main packages. However, the operator continues to offer a 'Šport Premium' package for 12 euros per month, providing access to 35 channels including Nova Sport, Premier Sport, and Canal+ Sport.
