Slovak, Slovenian police warn of new phishing SMS and email scams

The Slovak Police force warned that fraudsters are sending SMS messages with links to fake websites that imitate popular messaging apps such as WhatsApp and Telegram. New domains, for example whaetsapp[.]icu or tegrarm[.]com, are created continuously, differing only by a single letter or typo. Police spokesperson Roman Hájek said the scammers aim to obtain login credentials, payment‑card data and other personal information.

Slovenia’s Information Security Office issued a similar alert, saying that attackers are impersonating the government portal gov.si in phishing e‑mails that claim a “security update” or “mailbox closure”. Recipients are urged not to follow the links, as the sites are unrelated to the state administration and are used to harvest usernames and passwords.

Slovakia’s Financial Administration also cautioned that fraudulent SMS and e‑mail messages pretending to be from the tax authority are circulating, promising tax refunds or demanding payment of fictitious tax arrears. Spokesperson Daniel Kováč stressed that the agency never asks for personal or banking details via such messages.

All authorities recommend not clicking on suspicious links, verifying the real web address, deleting dubious messages, and, if credentials have been entered, changing passwords immediately and contacting the relevant bank or service provider.
