Slovakia and Slovenia clamp down on LGBTI+ NGOs' public funding

In Slovakia, state authorities have blocked a European grant and retained €100,000 meant for the LGBTI+ NGO Saplinq, explicitly stating the action was taken “because it is LGBT” and following an “instruction from the minister,” according to reports from Denník N, marker.sk and Korzár.

In Slovenia, public finance data from the ERAR system reveal that LGBTI+ organisations have collectively received more than €10.3 million of taxpayer money. The largest recipients are the cultural‑information centre Legebitra (€4.46 million) and the student cultural centre ŠKUC (€4.50 million). Funding surged under Prime Minister Robert Golob’s coalition, prompting critics to label the allocations as political clientelism and an ideological use of public resources.
