Slovakia announces increased 2026 agricultural subsidies
The Slovak Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has announced increased direct payment rates for 2026. All published rates show an increase compared to the previous year. Notably, support for cows in the market milk production system will rise by nearly 28 percent, reaching 352.73 EUR per head. Basic income support for sustainability is set at 117.31 EUR per hectare, an increase of approximately 11.7 percent.
Other agricultural sectors will also see higher support, including hops at 985.60 EUR per hectare and sugar beets at 632.80 EUR per hectare. Redistributive support for holdings up to 100.99 hectares will increase to 87.80 EUR per hectare.
In global commodity markets, food wheat prices on the MATIF exchange rose following the collapse of hopes for a Black Sea truce between Russia and Ukraine. Increased demand from Algeria also contributed to higher wheat prices. Conversely, rapeseed prices declined, and French authorities confirmed a record low corn harvest.
