Slovakia approves fast-track law to combat school radicalization
The Slovak government has approved an accelerated legislative procedure for a proposed law aimed at protecting children and youth from radicalization and mobilization to violence. The Ministry of Education, which submitted the proposal, cited extraordinary circumstances and a deteriorating security situation in schools as the primary reasons for the expedited process.
The move follows a recent violent incident at a primary school in Staškov, where a student's actions threatened the lives and health of teachers and pupils. Officials noted that this event is part of a series of serious violent incidents involving children and young adults in Slovak schools.
The proposed law seeks to establish a coordinated system to identify warning signs in student behavior, assess risk levels, and implement protection plans. While the legislative timeline in the National Council will be shortened, the government stated that the accelerated procedure will not limit professional discussion regarding the content of the bill.
