Slovakia autumn safety: Wildlife collision risks and health tips
As autumn progresses in Slovakia, experts are highlighting increased seasonal risks regarding both public health and road safety.
Regarding road safety, the Slovak Hunting Chamber warns of a higher risk of animal collisions. Factors such as deer rutting seasons, the loss of natural habitats due to crop harvesting, and shorter daylight hours increase the likelihood of encounters between vehicles and wildlife like deer and wild boar. Drivers are advised to reduce speed near forested areas and, in the event of an unavoidable collision, to brake firmly without swerving to avoid more dangerous maneuvers like entering oncoming traffic.
In terms of health, experts suggest several habits to bolster immunity against seasonal illnesses. Nutrition expert Michal Páleník emphasizes the importance of spending time outdoors to help the body adapt to changing temperatures and humidity. Additionally, controlled exposure to cold, such as ending showers with cold water, is recommended as a method of hardening the body to improve resilience against the weather.
