Slovakia: Businesses prepare for mandatory electronic invoicing and new postal digital services
Slovak businesses are preparing for mandatory electronic invoicing starting in January 2027. More than 5,000 companies have already begun the transition process. Under the new regulations, VAT payers must issue, send, and receive electronic invoices for domestic transactions between businesses and between businesses and public administration. While non-VAT payers are not required to issue them, they must ensure they have the capability to receive them.
Companies can choose various technical solutions, including integrating electronic invoicing into existing accounting software, using standalone applications from certified digital delivery service providers, or adopting comprehensive integrated solutions. The Financial Administration recommends that businesses begin preparations early to test systems and adjust internal processes.
In a related development regarding logistics, Slovenská pošta has introduced a mobile application designed to simplify parcel management. Registered users can prepare and pay for shipments online, select delivery locations such as post offices, PoštaPOINT, or BalíkoBOX, and track shipments in detail. Online payments allow users to send items via BalíkoBOX, traditional mailboxes, or by handing them to a courier, reducing the need for physical branch visits.
