Slovakia closes high-mountain trails in the Tatra Mountains
The Tatra National Park (TANAP) administration in Slovakia has implemented seasonal closures of selected high-mountain trails, effective from November 1 through May 31. These restrictions primarily affect trails located above the upper tree line, including the inability to cross the border via Rysy.
According to conservationists, the measures aim to protect nature and ensure tranquility for wildlife during their winter preparations. During the autumn and winter months, animals migrate to winter shelters to conserve energy and seek protection from harsh weather. Officials noted that the Tatra chamois is particularly vulnerable to disturbances during this migration period, as unnecessary human presence can cause a loss of vital energy reserves needed for survival.
