Slovakia cost of living survey: 2,720 euros needed monthly

A June survey conducted by the Focus agency for the Partners Foundation reveals that Slovak citizens estimate they need an average of 2,720 euros per month to maintain a decent standard of living. This standard is defined not by luxury, but by the ability to cover essential costs such as housing, food, and bills, while maintaining a financial buffer for unexpected expenses.

The findings indicate significant financial strain across the country. Approximately 39% of households report that they do not currently live a decent life, citing income levels as a primary factor. There is a stark contrast in perceived quality of life based on earnings: only 35% of those earning under 1,000 euros feel they live decently, compared to 82% of those earning over 2,600 euros.

Furthermore, household savings in Slovakia have dropped to a ten-year low. Nearly a quarter of respondents have no savings at all, while only 14% possess the recommended six-month financial cushion. The survey also notes that 87% of households feel the impact of recent consolidation measures on their family budgets, and over one-third of respondents stated their living situation has worsened over the past 12 months.
