Slovakia: Debates over grain transit and Moscow diplomatic visit

Slovak political leaders and opposition parties are debating key issues regarding transit, diplomacy, and foreign relations. Minister of Agriculture Richard Takáč and opposition deputy Viliam Karas have found common ground regarding the transit of Ukrainian grain. Both agree that while transit through Slovakia should be permitted to assist Ukraine following Black Sea blockades, measures must be in place to ensure these commodities do not enter the Slovak domestic market.

Separately, a political dispute has emerged regarding Foreign Minister Juraj Blanár’s upcoming visit to Moscow. The SaS party has alleged that the trip aims to negotiate an increase in the number of Russian diplomats stationed in Slovakia, citing potential security risks involving intelligence services. Minister Blanár has dismissed these claims as fabrications by the opposition, stating the visit is strictly for a long-planned meeting of the Slovak-Russian commission on economic and scientific-technical cooperation scheduled for October 25.
