Slovakia declines to join NATO military aid for Ukraine, says PM Robert Fico

Prime Minister Robert Fico announced that Slovakia will not participate in the forthcoming NATO‑backed military and financial assistance packages for Ukraine. Speaking after the NATO summit in Ankara, he said the country will not contribute to the announced €70 billion aid fund or the €90 billion loan scheme, emphasizing Slovakia’s sovereign foreign‑policy stance and its preference for humanitarian support rather than direct military financing.

Fico also noted that several NATO member states have expressed a willingness to open dialogue with Russia, a point he highlighted as part of a broader call for diplomatic engagement while maintaining a firm position against involvement in Ukraine’s war effort.
