Slovakia dismantles large illegal cigarette factory in eastern region

The Slovak Financial Administration has dismantled a large-scale illegal cigarette factory in eastern Slovakia, operating in the areas of Košice and Michalovce. Authorities believe the facility was managed by an international organized crime group intended to distribute untaxed products to Western European markets, including potentially the United Kingdom.

During the operation, officials seized approximately 9.1 million cigarettes, over 26 tons of tobacco and raw materials, a complete production line, and various components for tobacco manufacturing. The estimated loss in excise tax exceeds 6.39 million euros. Additionally, police confiscated vehicles, trailers, and more than 10,000 euros in cash.

Eighteen individuals, including citizens of Ukraine, Moldova, and Romania, were detained. All suspects face charges related to participation in an organized group, violation of regulations regarding product marking, and unauthorized tobacco production. They face potential prison sentences ranging from one to five years.
