Slovakia earmarks €150 million for school and cultural heritage upgrades
The Slovak Ministry of Environment has launched a new call under the Modernisation Fund, directing €150 million toward the refurbishment of schools and cultural facilities. Municipalities, higher territorial units and their funded organisations may submit applications until 31 August.
Grants range from €800 000 to €5 million, covering up to 95 % of eligible project costs. Funded measures include building insulation, roof replacement, heating modernisation using renewable energy sources such as heat pumps, lighting upgrades, electrical work, as well as new ventilation, cooling and indoor‑comfort technologies.
Environment Minister Tomáš Taraba highlighted the investment deficit in these sectors, while Culture Minister Martina Šimkovičová stressed the importance of modernising cultural venues to lower operating costs and improve public access. Applicants must provide project documentation, implementation permits and an energy assessment, with costs for these studies also eligible for funding. The full call and application form are available on the Environmental Fund’s website.
