Slovakia economic data shows industrial growth amid slowing construction
Slovakia's economic indicators for June 2026 show mixed results across key sectors. Industrial production returned to growth, increasing by 2.1% year-on-year, driven largely by a 30.8% surge in chemical production and a 6.6% rise in metal and machinery manufacturing. However, the electronics and computer goods sector saw a significant decline of 36.5%.
In the construction sector, production reached nearly 788 million euros in June, representing a real year-on-year growth of 1%, which marks the slowest growth rate for June in 14 years. While domestic new construction reached a historic June high, repairs and maintenance saw a real decline of 6.6%.
On a broader scale, the Eurozone economy remains resilient despite geopolitical tensions in the Middle East. While energy price volatility poses risks to inflation targets, analysts from the National Bank of Slovakia note that businesses are adapting by diversifying suppliers and investing in energy efficiency. The European Central Bank continues to warn of uncertainty regarding the return to 2% inflation targets.
