Slovakia elected to IAEA Board of Governors for 2026–2028

Slovakia has been elected to the Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) for the 2026–2028 term. The announcement was made during the IAEA General Conference in Vienna.

Foreign Minister Juraj Blanár stated that the election recognizes Slovakia as a responsible international partner. Given the country's high share of nuclear energy in its electricity production, Slovakia intends to share its technical expertise, support capacity building, and promote nuclear safety and peaceful energy use, particularly with nations beginning their nuclear programs.

Marta Žiaková, Chair of the Nuclear Regulatory Authority of the Slovak Republic, will represent the country on the Board, with Peter Burian serving as deputy.
