Slovakia expands cycling infrastructure and landscape tours
New cycling infrastructure developments are being highlighted in Slovakia. A new section of the Vážska cycling route, measuring over 12 kilometers, has successfully connected the Žilina and Trenčín self-governing regions. Funded by nearly 4.5 million euros from the Interreg SK-CZ cross-border program, the project includes a 78-meter cycling bridge near Hvozdnica and grade-separated underpasses to improve safety between Bytča and Považská Bystrica.
In the Skalica region, a specialized 17-kilometer cycling excursion is being organized as part of the ‘Za zelený Baťák’ campaign. Led by landscape architect Katarína Trizuliaková, the tour aims to educate participants on the history, soil, and water systems of the landscape between Zlatnícka dolina and the Skalica ponds. The event includes a discussion on how human intervention and future development may impact the local environment.
