Slovakia expands economic cooperation with Canada and Croatia

Slovakia is strengthening its international economic ties through bilateral agreements and trade frameworks. The Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) between the European Union and Canada has reached its tenth year, facilitating easier market access for Slovak exporters by reducing tariffs and administrative costs. According to Igor Barát of Eximbanka, these liberalizations have increased competitiveness for Slovak firms, resulting in estimated cost savings of 5 to 10 percent.

Separately, Slovakia and Croatia are seeking to deepen economic cooperation, with bilateral trade exceeding one billion euros for the third consecutive year. Discussions in Zagreb between Slovak and Croatian officials highlighted potential expansion into the defense industry, specifically regarding ammunition production. The two nations also addressed shared concerns regarding high energy prices affecting European industry and the upcoming EU budget for 2028–2034, emphasizing the need for continued support for cohesion and agricultural policies.
