Slovakia faces heat wave and thunderstorms amid soaring summer temperatures

The Slovak Hydrometeorological Institute (SHMÚ) warned that western and central Slovakia will experience thunderstorms and heavy showers after a very hot summer day with temperatures reaching up to 33 °C. A cold front is expected to move across the country on Monday, bringing rain especially to the north and east, while temperatures will stay between 26 °C and 31 °C.

Meteorologists predict a further pulse of hot air from Tuesday onward, with daytime highs climbing to 30 °C‑35 °C and reaching 38 °C‑39 °C in the southwest later in the week. The recent heat has already set a national record of 41.3 °C in late June, and forecasters say temperatures could approach 40 °C by the end of the week. The SHMÚ expects the heat wave to continue into early August, with only slight moderation expected later.

Overall, residents are advised to prepare for intense heat and intermittent thunderstorms as the summer progresses.
