Slovakia faces record heat and extreme summer weather

Slovakia is experiencing an extreme summer characterized by a record-breaking number of tropical days, where temperatures exceed 29.9 degrees Celsius. According to the Slovak Hydrometeorological Institute (SHMÚ), these temperatures are not limited to southern regions but have also reached mountainous areas, including Kojšovská hoľa.

Specific locations have seen significant extremes, with Kamenica nad Hronom recording 47 tropical days and Kráľová pri Senici recording 43. In Hurbanov, every day since June 16 has been classified as a summer day.

These weather extremes, including intense heat and heavy storms with hail, are testing the durability of residential infrastructure. While metal roofing is a common modern solution, experts note that traditional heavy materials like concrete or ceramic tiles offer superior resistance to hail damage and better thermal accumulation, helping to maintain cooler indoor temperatures during prolonged heatwaves.
