Slovakia faces youth emigration amid growing tech sector

Slovakia is facing significant challenges regarding youth retention and the development of its domestic technology sector. Political commentary highlights a systemic failure to support young people, noting that many high-achieving graduates and nearly a quarter of startups consider moving abroad due to poor educational results, lack of institutional coordination, and unstable funding for social services.

In contrast to these systemic issues, the local tech landscape shows signs of growth and specialization. Natuvion Slovakia has established itself as a major competence center in Bratislava, employing over 150 specialists who manage global digital transformations and data migrations for international corporations such as BMW and E.ON.

Additionally, academic entrepreneurship is emerging through initiatives like the Startup Pitch 2026 at the Slovak University of Technology. The startup Aericomm, founded by five graduates, aims to modernize building ventilation systems by replacing complex, error-prone manual wiring with integrated control boards to improve energy efficiency.
