Slovakia hits historic August tourism record

Slovakia reached a historic August record for tourism, with 871,000 guests staying in accommodation facilities. According to the Statistical Office of the Slovak Republic, this represents a year-on-year increase of nearly 8% and marks the highest monthly number of guests ever recorded in the country's tracking history.

Foreign visitors drove significant growth, increasing by nearly 16% year-on-year to 375,000 guests. This figure surpassed the previous record set in August 2019 by 15%. The largest groups of foreign tourists were from the Czech Republic, accounting for 28% (approximately 103,000 guests), followed by Poland at 20% (approximately 75,000 guests).

Domestic visitors made up 57% of the total, with 496,000 guests. While this is a 2% increase from the previous year, it remains 8% below the historical peak seen in August 2021. In total, visitors spent nearly 2.4 million nights in Slovak accommodations, an average of 2.8 nights per guest. All eight Slovak regions reported record numbers for August, with the Žilina region receiving the highest number of visitors at 222,000.
