Slovakia holds commemorations for historical uprisings
In Nižný Žipov, a commemorative event was held to mark the 195th anniversary of the Eastern Slovak Peasant Uprising of 1831. Members of Matica slovenská and local residents gathered to honor the courage of those who rose against social oppression, poverty, and the cholera epidemic. The uprising, which began in Košice, spread through the Zemplín region before being suppressed by imperial forces.
Separately, Banská Bystrica is preparing for the 82nd anniversary of the Slovak National Uprising (SNP). Significant traffic restrictions and parking closures will be in effect in the city from August 22 through August 30 to accommodate the celebrations and the construction of a stage near the SNP Monument. The main commemorative ceremony, involving high-ranking officials and foreign guests, is scheduled for August 29.
