Slovakia implements new right to repair regulations

New consumer protection regulations regarding the ‘right to repair’ are set to take effect in Slovakia on July 31, 2026. These rules aim to make repairing household appliances and electronics, such as washing machines, vacuum cleaners, and mobile phones, more accessible and affordable for consumers.

Under the new framework, manufacturers of selected products will be required to facilitate repairs even after the standard warranty period has expired. Manufacturers may not unreasonably refuse a repair request simply because it is more profitable to sell a new product. Repairs must be conducted at a reasonable price and within a reasonable timeframe. The regulations specifically address issues where repairs were previously hindered by a lack of spare parts, expensive tools, or manufacturers discontinuing service for older models.
