Slovakia introduces Vision 2040 strategic document

Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico has introduced ‘Vision Slovakia 2040’, a long-term strategic document developed by approximately 350 experts, including researchers from the Slovak Academy of Sciences. Fico has called on political opposition to support the document, emphasizing its non-partisan nature.

The vision addresses ongoing trends such as climate change and demographic shifts, while also acknowledging extreme possibilities like the potential collapse of the European Union or large-scale warfare in Europe. The document is intended to serve as a foundation for the subsequent ‘Strategy Slovakia 2040’.

Observers note that while the document includes contributors with ties to the political opposition, the government maintains it did not interfere with the experts' work. Challenges to the document's implementation include the unpredictable impact of artificial intelligence and the risk of such strategic visions being sidelined by future political shifts.
