Slovakia issues bear warnings in Košice and Žilina regions

The State Nature Conservancy of the Slovak Republic (ŠOP SR) has issued warnings following brown bear sightings in the Košice and Žilina regions. In the Košice-okolie district, a bear was spotted near the Klátovské meteority nature trail between the villages of Nižný Klátov and Vyšný Klátov.

In the Turiec region, near the village of Krpeľany, authorities reported a female bear accompanied by three cubs. Intervention teams, including FATRA and ŠOP SR Východ, are monitoring both locations.

Conservationists advise residents, tourists, and hikers to exercise extreme caution. They recommend making noise while moving through nature, keeping dogs on leashes, and avoiding any attempts to approach, follow, or photograph the animals. In cases of immediate danger, the public is instructed to call the emergency line 112. Recent incidents in the region have necessitated the removal of several bears following attacks on humans and livestock.
