Slovakia labor and banking updates for September 15 holiday

September 15, the Feast of Our Lady of Sorrows, will be a non-working holiday in Slovakia. While it is not a day of rest, employers may require staff to work as they would on a normal business day.

Under Slovak labor laws, employees working on this day are entitled to their regular wage plus a holiday premium of at least 100% of their average earnings. Alternatively, employers and employees can agree on compensatory time off instead of the premium payment.

Slovenská sporiteľňa, the country's largest bank, has announced it will close all physical branches and corporate centers on this day to grant employees a non-banking day of paid leave. Despite the closures, the bank will maintain full digital services, including internet banking, mobile applications, and the ATM network. Customers requiring assistance can use the bank's helpline.
